Hotel Patrick in Margarita Island

zuletzt aktualisiert am 05.01.2010

Juan Griego is the independent traveller’s best-kept secret on Margarita Island!

Hotel Patrick is a posada (hostel) run by Michael - an Irish musician and filmmaker - and his beautiful Venezuelan wife, Odalis. They do everything they can to ensure that you have a great holiday in their beautiful, friendly and informal hotel. The Patrick (named after the French man who built it) is just 20 meters from the sea, only 2 minutes walk from the town centre shops and it has a lush tropical garden. Most guests refer to it as `a home away from home`, and many independent travellers stay for much longer than they originally planned, preferring to be based in Juan Griego rather than the much more tourist and commercial Playa el Agua area. Juan Griego is also a safe and accessible harbour for ‘yachties’ (travellers with boats) as it lies outside the Caribbean hurricane belt.

Hotel Patrick has 9 double rooms (2 with two single beds) and 1 two-room ‘family suite’ with one single and two double beds suitable for up to 5 people. The four rooms on the ‘top deck’ have sea views from the balcony and the 5 lower deck rooms are situated beside the tropical garden. All the rooms have a bathroom with a shower (with hot water) and toilet and are cleaned every day. 7 of the rooms have air conditioning while the other 3 rooms have an electric fan, and therefore are a little cheaper. The hotel has 24-hour security on-site and no curfew.

Paddy’s Bar and Restaurant
The bar is open from around 11am – 11pm on weekdays and 11am-1am on Fridays and Saturdays. As well as enjoying an ice-cold Polar beer or a Cuba Libre (Venezuelan rum with Coca Cola) you can also play pool for free. The Restaurant is open for healthy breakfasts (fresh tropical fruit, muesli, ham and eggs, pure orange juice) and filling evening meals (stews, curries home-made burgers and chips) at very reasonable prices. There is a chill-out space where you can exchange a book from our multi-language library, have a siesta in our hammocks, watch a DVD or use our free PC with its broadband connection to access the Internet. If you have your own computer with you, you can also get on the Internet via our free WiFi access. There is a discotheque in front of the hotel (open Thursday to Saturday) and a late-night bar just across the street for those people who want to keep the party going.

We can help you to book sightseeing trips: swimming with dolphins, learning how to sail a yacht, jeep safaris around the island, snorkelling and scuba, trips to the aqua parks, an Amazon trip to the mainland to see Angel Falls (the world’s highest waterfall) or a trip to Los Roques. Just ask Michael.

The Town of Juan Griego
Juan Griego is a small fishing town set in a sweeping, sheltered bay in the northwest of Margarita Island and situated close to the beautiful Playa Caribe (Caribe Beach), the best beach on the island. Juan Griego is probably the most relaxed and friendly town in Margarita, with many shops offering Duty Free goods at excellent prices. You can sit on the beach under the palm trees at one of the many neighbouring restaurants offering local food (especially fresh sea food) and watch the sun setting over the sea, a sight which really is breath-taking. Just 5 minutes walk from the Hotel Patrick and set on a headland offering amazing views of the town and the sea is a local monument known as the Fortin, marking the spot where local people, aided by British and Irish revolutionary volunteers, bravely resisted the attacks of the Spanish in Venezuela’s struggle for independence in the early 1800s – the proudest moment in the town’s long history.
