Poets Corner Hostel in Olomouc

zuletzt aktualisiert am 05.01.2010

The hostel is located right within Olomouc's stunning old town centre and offers spacious eight-bed dorms and private rooms which can be made up as doubles, twins, triples or quads. The rooms are all big and bright, and the beds all have quality mattresses and proper cotton linen (included in the price). There’s also a balcony for the smokers, a kitchen for the chefs, laundry service, up-to-date listings of all the cultural events around town, a comfy common room full of armchairs and sofas and lots more.   Olomouc is the old capital of Moravia and is the second largest historic preservation zone in the country, after only Prague. Soaring church towers, winding cobbled back lanes, the ring of parks around the city walls, the UNESCO-listed trinity column and of course the magnificent main square with the renaissance town hall and notorious communist astronomical clock are among Central Europe's finest.   Don’t just take our word for it though, Lonely Planet calls Olomouc “the country’s most underrated city” and says ”The glorious cityscape of Olomouc (possibly Central Europe’s most underrated)…provides the truest sense of what Prague would be like without the crowds, in a word, fabulous” (p267, Czech and Slovak Republics 2007).   Being a university town, there are loads of cheap cafes and bars, and there are some real gems amongst them. For example there’s the café with the famous chocolate pie (ask anyone who’s been here), and the teahouses, Zen temples of luxury where you ring a bell to order and your chai will be served with a flourish. For nighttimes, we have an exclusive guide to two dozen different pubs that we can personally recommend, including the airplane bar, the rock climbing bar and for the freshest beer, the microbrewery just around the corner.   So, you can see that if you were just planning to break up a trip and spend one night with us, you probably underestimated Olomouc a little, “Wish we could have stayed longer” is the most common phrase in our guest book. You really need three full days to see everything properly, but you’re welcome to stay for as short or as long as you like, and we’ll do our best to see that you get the most out of it.   We look forward to seeing you soon!

Wichtige Hinweise

Please note: We only make a few of our beds available on this website, so please don’t reserve more than you need. If you book too many nights or beds, it means nobody else can book them and you will have to pay for them. If you have made a mistake or your plans change give us plenty of notice and if we can fill the bed some other way, we might not have to charge your credit card at all.

From The Train Station
* Buy a 12Kc ticket from the machine, Catch tram #4, 5, 6, or 7 to Namesti Hrdinu then follow the directions below: (from July 12 to Sept 14 2009 go directly across the road from the train station to Kosmonaut? and take tram X1 or X2 to Nam. Hrdín?)

* Get off at Namesti Hrdinu, which is 5-6 stops from the train station
* Walk for 200m toward the red dome (away from the red church).
* We are to the right of the Umbro shop at Sokolska 1.
* Buzz Poets Corner doorbell and we will let you in.

Obviously it's easier to find your way if you arrive before dark. If you must arrive late, we recommend printing the map from this or from the hostel's official website.

If you choose to take a taxi from the train station, the fare should be about 100Kc.

Please understand that in such a small homelike hostel it’s not practical to have credit card facilities on the premises. We’ll ask you to pay in Czech Crowns cash upon arrival, so please have enough with you to pay for your entire booking plus an extra 200Kc as a key deposit (which you will receive back when you return the keys on your last day).

If you’re coming from the east and Olomouc is your first stop within the country, fear not, for there are bank machines both at the train station and at the tram stop where you will get off in the centre.
