Sylvia’s Guest House in Barcelona
Guest House in an antique building just 200 meters from the harbor with the old fishermen style of last centuries. Facilities are totally refurbished, but you still enjoy high ceilings and typical windows, as well as an original main entrance to the building. You will have sheets, linen and towels included in the price, as well as the breakfast every day. We clean all the common areas daily, so even if the bathroom is shared you are sure it's clean. The place is really comfortable and clean and you will have a real home feeling. We have a person living on site, so she will be attending you whenever you need help. There is Wifi connection for free. You can use the fridge. You can use the microwave. We're sorry, but you cannot use the kitchen for cooking. Subway is just 150 meters away (Barceloneta stop, L4). You can take just in from many buses: * #14 to Port Olimpic (leisure and Fiesta area) or to Plaza Catalunya * #51 to Sagrada Familia or the modernist Sant Pau's Hospital * #Bus turístic (South route) On February 3rd, 1753 the placement of the first stone of the new Barcelona's planned sea district (Barceloneta) was set. It was planned as an ordered and standardized district by a military engineer (Juan Martín Cermeño). Until middle XX Century, Barceloneta kept being a mainly industrial district, but companies’ preferred to move in order to grow. After that, the proximity to the sea made the district an attractive place for public baths and restaurants. As a headquarters you will be able to walk to: * Estació de França (Train station)(200 meters): this was the place in which the first rail of the first railway line in Spain was installed in 1848. The present building (called at its time as ""The Monument"") was inaugurated on June 2nd, 1929 by King Alfonso XIII. It's remarkable for its metallic shelter in a double arcade. * Santa María del Mar (Church)(250 meters): remarkable gothic church built in 1328 by Berenguer de Montagut. It has some architectural specific characteristics that made it unique. * Palau de Mar (250 meters): it holds the Museum of History of Catalonia and many interesting restaurants with magnificent views to the port. * Parc de la Ciutadella (300 meters): it's maybe one of the most beautiful, spectacular and enchanted corners of Barcelona. With almost 45 acres, it was the only Park in the city for years. It was originally the citadel built by King Felipe V to rule the city of Barcelona. As we know it today it was planned for the Universal Exposition of 1888. It holds the Zoo, the Museum of Natural History, and the Parlament of Catalonia. You can also trail by the many paths or sail in an oars boat. There are 100 of catalogued bird species, many amazing trees and some interesting sculptures. * Cathedral of Barcelona (900 meters): built between the XIII and XV centuries is dedicated to the Saint Cross and Saint Eulalia, patron of Barcelona. In its gothic cloister live 13 gooses because Saint Eulalia was 13 years old when she was martyred and she used to be a goose shepherd. * Ramblas (950 meters): the most intercultural, crowded and colorful street in Barcelona. Street artists, mimes, painters, flowers shops, press points and animal shops compete to attract the interest of the tourists. While you walk along Ramblas you cannot loose the Boqueria Market and Liceu (Opera Palace).
