Pension Gimmelwald in Lauterbrunnen

A farmhouse 100 years ago, it is now a cozy family style inn that takes pride in offering old fashioned hospitality. The bar and restaurant area is full of memorabilia and antiques from the farming village. There is also a log fire and traditional bar.   We welcome people from all over the world to a mountain retreat far from the madding crowd. The pension stands at 4500ft (1350m) and can only be reached from the valley by cable car (we are just 2 minutes from the station). The building is unashamedly old fashioned, the furniture is all period to the inn and there are no TVs. Staying here you leave the modern world behind and return to a traditional farming community where many tasks are still done by hand. The village is car free and most produce is organic. For supper we encourage people to sit around one big table and join in the conversation. The inn is also used by the local community.

Wegbeschreibung

Gimmelwald is to be found in the heart of the Bernese Oberland / Jungfrau Region of the Swiss Alps. Interlaken is the local large town, which is about 1hr by public transport or 30 minutes by car.

Bern and Luzern are reached within about 2hrs, Basel, Geneva and Zurich in about 4hrs.

Note that the village is located on a ledge above the valley and is served by a cable car system (the Schilthornbahn) which provides service from 6am until midnight. There is no direct access by cars, which should be parked at the cable car station.

If coming by car, drive from Interlaken, through Lauterbrunnen and park at the Stechelberg Schilthornbahn station.
