The historical building was built in 1862. It was used as a prison until autumn 1998. Where prisoners attempted to escape for more than 135 years, today, tourists and residents of Lucerne enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Jail hotel and Alcatraz- Bar.   But watch out ! The ""Löwengraben"" is the first prison in Switzerland you'll never want to leave. May we lock you up ?   All the rooms are equipped with toilet, washbasin and shower ( Non smoking rooms ) . toilet, washbasin and shower.   All rooms fitted with wash basin, shower and WC.   Would you like to know more about life behind bars ? We recommend a stay in our ""unplugged-cells"". Renovated in cooperation with the local memorial board, these rooms are as close you can get to the original cells. Each room has its own shower next door. Useful information - the hotel is open 24 hours a day - breakfast is served from 7 to 10.00 a.m. - parking lots and parking garages are available at short distance from the hotel - free entrance to the Alcatraz-club for our hotel guests - pet cost 15 CHF per day - Crib is possible in the Suite - The club in the hotel is open from Thursday to Saturday from 22.00 to 04.00 clock
