Alfama Patio Hostel in Lisbon
Alfama district is a pearl to be discovered... ...the labyrinth of streets, harking back to its rich Islamic heritage... ...some of the most visited monuments are at walking distance. ...and even today, as in the past: white clothes hanging at the windows to dry, colourful flowers, legendary yellow trams winding up its narrow streets. Our Hostel has a private grass courtyard with barbecue, hammocks, and terrace with a stunning view over Alfama district, the Tagus River, and the S. Vicente de Fora Church and Monastery. Though we like to have fun, we are not mainly a party hostel. Our aim is to provide a quiet and relaxed atmosphere in the hostel, so if you’d like to party after 0.00h, it is possible to go to the clubs and bars nearby. Never-the-less we have an extend program to give you opportunities to have fun and meet people: On Saturdays we have our World famous Barbecue Party with live Dj, On Mondays the open air cinema on the Terrace, On Wednesdays is Latino night Party, with Mojitos and Djs, Thrusdays we have free Fado tour, and Friday free Pubcrawl tour. Please note that our hostel character is not suitable for people under 10 years.

Wegbeschreibung
By train:Lisbon has two major train terminals, Gare do Oriente and Sta Apolónia.
Using collective public transportation:
It's best to choose Sta Apolónia Terminal, although it is possible to come from Gare do Oriente Train Station and change for Sta Apolónia.
In Santa Apolonia Terminal Station - a 10 minute walk away - leave the station. Go up the hill in the street (Calçada do Forte) on the right side of the Museu Militar (about 30 meters from the train station). Turn left (Rua dos Remédios) (40 metres), and go straight ahead until you find Rua do Vigário on your right (150 mts).
Keep going up until you find Rua das Escolas Gerais on your right (100 mts). Keep going until you find a traffic light (80 metres), then turn right and enter the first green gate on your left (20mts).
Using taxi:
From Gare do Oriente, tell them to go to Escolas Gerais 3 (not Rua das Escolas Gerais, common mistake!), near Portas do Sol. Takes 15 minutes, costs about 10€.
From Sta Apolónia, tell them to go to Escolas Gerais 3 (not Rua das Escolas Gerais, common mistake!), near Portas do Sol, less than 5 minutes and about 4€ (although some taxi drivers won’t accept it, because they will consider to be too short a trip).
Arriving by Bus:
Lisbon has two major bus terminals, Gare do Oriente and Sete Rios.
Using collective public transportation:
If you arrive to Gare do Oriente, then is the same as arriving by train directions, take a train towards Sta Apolónia and follow the directions we gave.
If you arrive on Sete Rios Terminal, you are 100 meters away from a subway station called Jardim Zoologico (Zoo) in the Blue Line. Simply take the subway towards Sta Apolónia (last Stop – 0,75€- aprox. 20 min) and follow given direction to walk from Sta Apolónia.
Using Taxi:
Tell them to go to Escolas Gerais 3 (not Rua das Escolas Gerais, common mistake!), near Portas do Sol. Approx. 10.0€, about 20 min).
Arriving from Lisbon Airport:
Using collective public transportation:
take bus 44, 45, 91 (1.30€, approx 30 minutes) or Aerobus (3€, approx 20 min) to the city center.
Drop off at Praça do Comércio (big square by the river, everyone knows it). Take Rua Augusta (the one with a huge arch) until Rua da Conceição (70mts) and take left, you will find a tramway stop there (30mts).
Take tram 28 towards Castel (you can buy tickets from the driver for 1.30€, approx10 min).
Get off one stop after Portas do Sol. The hostel is 30 meters from the tram stop, in a place called Patio dos Quintalinhos, (on the left) enter the opened green gate and look for number 1.
Using Taxi:
We recommend buying the taxi voucher in the tourism desk at the airport. €15.35 per taxi (day and week days) or €18.44 per taxi (night and weekends). Tell them to go to Escolas Gerais 3 (not Rua das Escolas Gerais, common mistake!), near Portas do Sol. It should take 15 minutes.
Arriving from Oporto Airport:
Using collective public transportation:
Take the subway towards Campanha Station (direct line), then choose a train to Lisbon, we advice to use an IC Service (Inter City Trains – 19.5€ takes 3h) or Alfa Service (fast Service – 27.50€ takes 2h35min), trains from 5.47am to 8.47pm, at least one train every hour. Head to Sta Apolonia Terminal, but Oriente Station is also okay. Then follow our directions.
By car:
Go towards the city center, and then follow signs to the Castle Monument. Alfama district is just outside Castle Walls. Park for free near S.Vicente Fora Church (in Tuesdays and Saturdays it is flea market there so no parking), or pay in Portas do Sol Underground parking. Both of these are about three minutes walk from the hostel, just follow the tramway rails until you find Escolas Gerais. We are in number 3, there will be a sign for Pátio dos Quintalinhos, ring on number 1.
