Foundation Niños del Arco Iris in Urubamba
zuletzt aktualisiert am 05.01.2010
1.Take a shared taxi from the taxi rank in Cusco to Urubamba, and from there a taxi to the project, Querocancha. This is a cheaper option.
2.Take a local bus from the Cusco bus station to Urubamba bus station, and then a taxi to the project, Querocancha. This is for the adventurous and is by far the cheapest option.
For options 1 &, 2 you have to take a taxi to the Urubamba Terminal on Puente Grande for 5 Soles maximum. All the drivers know where that is.
Note: The shared taxi stand is in Pavitos street over the road from the Urubamba bus station on your right hand side at the entrance to a large blue house. There will be men standing around who will happily guide you to a taxi. The taxi service closes around 8 pm. As soon as 5 or 6 passengers have collected, the taxi leaves. The ride costs 4 Soles per person (4 passengers in the back) or 5 Soles (3 passengers in the back) and takes an hour. You get out in Urubamba by the large petrol station (el grifo), where taxis will be waiting for you.
Note 2. You take the local bus from the Cusco bus terminal. It leaves every 15 minutes and costs 3 Soles per person. The bus takes half an hour. You get out at the Urubamba bus station where taxis will be waiting for you.
From Urubamba to the project:
You must give clear instructions to the driver that you want to go to the Niños del Arco Iris project in Querocancha, via the Torrechayoc church. If you are not clear in your instructions you may be dropped of at the school for mantally handicapped, which is also called Arco Iris. Turning right along the side of the church in Torrechayoc, the taxi climbs and carries straight on until the road ends. This will be the red entrance gate to the project. This is a distance of about 4km and takes 10 minutes in a taxi.
In Spanish, the description of the route is as follows:
Por favor, llevame a Querocancha a la Asociación Niños del Arco Iris.
Va por la iglesia Sr. Torrechayoc de frente hasta el final de la carretera hasta llegar a una esquina las Chullpas. Pasa de frente hasta el porton rojo. Es un trayecto de 10 minutos
On the project are 8 bungalows each fitted with a fireplace, shower and full-size bathtub. During your stay the volunteers at the project are glad to show you around. Most important, your stay with us benefits the project. 100% of the money goes directly into the project and is meant for helping the children.
The foundation is founded by Helena van Engelen to provide street children with food, education and medical care on a daily basis.
The goal of the project is to offer a future to deprived children who are vulnerable to the many risks associated with a life of poverty. At the project more than 200 children and mothers receive warmth and attention.
We offer pick up airport service for $20 USA.
