Barton Creek Outpost in San Ignacio
zuletzt aktualisiert am 05.01.2010
If you are arriving into San Ignacio there are several ways to get to Barton Creek Outpost. The easiest way is to check in at Eva’s Restaurant, have a cold drink and let those good folks help you get here. Kenny, at the Central Hotel right next to Eva’s, can help you as well. Typically this will involve them arranging a shuttle for around $30US for up to 4 people. The drive is only about 15 miles but takes about an hour due to the eternally Belizean condition of the road.
It is possible that we will be in San Ignacio when you arrive and you can catch a ride to the Outpost with us for only $5BZ per person. The people at
Eva’s or Kenny will know if we are around and can give us a call.
Although hitchhiking is common in Belize we do not recommend it to get to Barton Creek Outpost. The road is long, hot and lonely and the majority of people that try to hitchhike in have ended up walking the 9 miles of dirt road, with their packs, wishing they paid the $30.
Private shuttles are reasonably priced and available from Belize City.
Camping is free for those with their own gear or you can rent tents, sleeping bags and even thick, foam pads to put between you and the ground. Facilities include a plephora of creek-side hammocks, a small book exchange, and excellent bird watching and scenic botanical gardens. If you are seeking some adventure we offer guided and unguided jungle hikes, night hikes as well as trips to remote swimming holes, waterfalls, Maya ruins, horseback riding, river canoeing and cave exploring. Whether you work up an appetite on an adventure or in a hammock you will always be impressed by the excellent home cooked meals we serve three times a day.
