Merida Hostel A nameless place in Merida

zuletzt aktualisiert am 05.01.2010

I am RAUL, alias TARZAN the BACKPACKER, A 63 year OLD DYING SUPER TRAVELED BACKPACKER WHO REPENTS AND WORKS VERY HARD TRYING TO RECTIFY THE NATURAL CONSEQUENCES OF HAVING MADE MORE MISTAKES THAN ANYBODY THAT HE EVER MET, and owner of the HOSTEL in Merida that bears no name. I claim that I speak better American English than any of the boys that called me a SPIK in grade school. I also speak a little French, some Italian and a few phrases in very many other languages.
The nameless place is AN AUTHENTIC COLONIAL house, which was home to my ancestors for many generations. I am also a SLAVE connected to the hostel via cel phone 24/7.
All of our rooms have at least a full size bed, a twin bed and a private bath with hot and hotter water.( Using this hot water wisely allows you to comfortably resist our wet atmospheric heat). All of the rooms are spacey enough to allow us to comfortably add an extra bed when needed. Some even have a large private terrace and a bunch of little birds to wake you up in the morning. We even take advantage of the bats from the cathedral by keeping them just outside of the hostel and allowing them to eat the mosquitoes before they get to the hostel.
We have large private rooms for 2 to 6 people and 2 large dorms with their own integrated bathrooms and capacities up to 12 beds.

We have solar-butane water heaters so the sun heats the water and not the building. The air intakes to our big dorm pass though a mini garden of 'Galanes de noche', these are exotic tropical plants whose flowers emmit a super healthy night perfume. This together with my taking advantage of the architectonic properties of the building and proper management of air circulation allows certain control of the inside temperature giving us a unique ecological air conditioning system. You do not need to spend a lot to be able to sleep comfortably and survive the local humid heat. The Nameless Place is the perfect location for your visit to the Merida area.

Check in time.05:00 to 23:00 hrs.

We offer a small free l breakfast, (just 2 slices of bread, MANGO MERMELADE, In Season, Instant Coffee &amp, powder milk, cooking oil, ketchup and Mayo). We have THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN for the OPEN MINDED TRAVELER OF THIS CENTURY
April 19, 2008.
Just a few days ago from a very young couple from Argentina whom I picked up from the bus station at 5AM . I did no additional charge for pick up or for early arrival. Made some nasty comments about the hostel. I can understand that their lack of experience made them confuse dirtiness with the effects of time in a house that has been declared a national monument by the local historical authorities. I can also understand their irrational fear of security. Let me assure that according to my experience SECURITY for the Backpacker lays on having YOUR OWN HIGH SECURITY PADLOCK and staying in a place that is respected by most local crooks and authorities.
Fortunately while on one of my journeys I learned from some wise men from mainland China that in the the World of some Chinese monks THE CONCEPT OF A CRISIS also denotes the IDEA of &quot,OPPORTUNITY&quot,.
In view of this and to honor the teachings of the men from Chung Wa:
From today and up to the first of July, JUST AFTER your checking in at our hostel, ask for a pair of dice and shoot them. If you get the same number as that of the current month, you get
AN ADDITIONAL NIGHT FREE
During June you get one shot, in may you may shoot them twice. In April shoot them trice.
I periodically search the Internet and review it to the best of my ability for any complaints or negative reviews on or about our hostel. I have taken and shall systematically keep on taking all the necessary steps when my power to correct any presents deficiencies or those that may arise in the future. Within 72 hrs we should have installed a new higher tech ultrasound insect repelled in the big dorm. I do not want to bore you any more.

CHECK IT OUT. Stay with us, enjoy our modest place and let me know how we can improve it.

Wegbeschreibung

Just find the ‘Zocalo (Plaza Mayor, or main square.) As you stand on 60th Street (main Street) facing the Cathedral walk 2 blocks north (to your left) to 57th street. You will be at the corner of 60th and 57th. You will see the 'Casa Del Balam Hotel.' We are next door to it on 57th and have a yellow sign that reads 'hostel!'

Finding the 'Zocalo' from the main bus stations (‘Came’ and 2nd class,) stand at the corner of 69th and 70th Street. It's the corner to your left as you exit from any of them. Walk northward (away from the stations) on 70th for 3 blocks to 63rd. Turn right on 63rd walk 4 blocks and you are there. Cross the square diagonally and you will be standing in front of the cathedral. (By the way you can buy bus tickets at the main square and avoid long lines at the bus station).

You can also catch a cab in front of these stations. The authorised tariff as of Dec. 2005 is of 30 Pesos (under U.S. $3). The driver may try to charge you more or try to steer you away to another place saying that we are closed or otherwise. If you want to save a few pesos, walk to your left, to the corner of El Español hotel there you can catch a Taxi-metro cab ( that is any colour except white with a red stripe) tell the driver to take you to the ‘Casa Del Balam’ hotel. We are next door to the side of it. These cabs should charge you about 10 or 12 pesos. Just beware they may try to go around in circles to make the meter run higher!

From the airport:
For only 4.50 Pesos (US $0.40) you can take a bus right in front of the terminal it will say '69 aeropuerto'. Take it all the way to its terminal. As you exit the bus walk right to the corner of 62nd street.

Turn left on 62nd and walk 2 blocks to the ‘Zocalo.’ Cross it diagonally and you will be in front of the Cathedral. There is a shared cab service office just outside the terminal on the left side as you exit. Be sure to get your ticket at this office to avoid been cheated.
