Located just 29 kilometers from Vientiane Capital, Rivertime Resort and Ecolodge has been built entirely from local materials using local labour and expertise.   Sensitively constructed in old secondary forest on the edge of the mighty Nam Ngum river and within easy reach of the Lao capital, the resort offers an ideal ecotourism vacation for visitors to Laos – ‘Asia’s Premier Ecotourism Destination!’   The resort’s 10 medium and family-sized lodges each provide a wide view of the river, are moderately priced and comfortably fitted-out to suit the requirements of today’s eco-tourists.   The grounds of Rivertime Resort encompass a beautiful, lovingly-created flower and organic vegetable garden, several acres of old-growth forest, a floating restaurant on the Nam Ngum River, small Internet café, fish ponds, and children’s adventure play area.   The resort offers several trekking trails, and guided tours, ranging from a 20 minute stroll through the old growth forest in the resort grounds to half-day local area treks or cycle rides on the resort’s bicycles.   One or two-day treks through the mountainous primary forests in Phou Khao Kwai National Protected Area can also be arranged, and river tours to the many areas of interest along the Nam Ngum river leave from the Resort at the request of guests.

How to get here:

From the airport
The resort is located about a 50-minute drive from the airport. Guests booking in advance can arrange on the booking form to be picked up by resort staff and delivered to the resort. Otherwise, taxis are available outside the airport and arriving guests can use a printout of the map on our website to show the driver how to get here (don’t expect the driver to speak English).

From the Friendship Bridge
Most guests arriving overland from Thailand enter Laos over the Friendship Bridge from Nongkhai. After passing through immigration and customs, arriving guests can hire a taxi or tuk-tuk to Vientiane or directly to the resort. Guests coming directly to the resort can use a printout of the map on our website to show the driver.

The cheapest way to get to Rivertime from Vientiane is to go to Kua Din market (before 4 p.m.) and get one of the Thadindeng village regular tuk-tuks shared with local people for 20,000 kip per person (around US$2.50). You can also hire a tuk-tuk privately (not shared) to bring you here for US$20. Email us for a printable, bi-lingual map which you can show the driver.

Taxis are available at the airport and Friendship Bridge entry points. The normal rate to bring guests to Rivertime from the airport is US$22 or US$35 for a minibus. However, drivers may ask for more and are often reluctant to drive out here, especially late in the day. Taxis from the airport to Vientiane are US$6.

The easiest way is to contact us by email or telephone to arrange your transport. If you tell us a place and time, or flight number and time of arrival, we will ensure that you are met and brought to the resort by taxi or minibus. Cost of transfer is US$20 to US$25, payable directly to the owner-driver.
