La Jouane in Sougraigne

The gite d’etape style accommodation which is simple but well appointed comprises twin bedded rooms with shared self catering kitchen, showers and toilets. Our accommodation benefits from central heating run by a wood burning stove. There is an undercover area for barbecues and alfresco eating. Parking and storage is available for bicycles, motorbikes and even for your horses.
Well behaved pets are very welcome but we do ask that they are kept on leads near the house and animals.

On our farm of 30 hectares, we raise sheep, goats and pigs and can supply you with delicious meat from our outdoor, healthily reared animals for your warm evening barbecues. We also can provide fresh vegetables from our garden.

Horses graze in the pastures and our future plans also include camping a la ferme, 2 self contained gites and walking with donkeys.

The farm lies on the border between the departments of the Aude and the Pyrenees Orientale in the heart of Cathar country and in this area we have activities to please everyone.

The most active can enjoy rafting, forest adventures and cycling on the winding roads through the valleys. The many kilometers of forest tracks are ideal for mountain biking, walking and horse treks, which can be arranged by our nearest neighbor 400 yards away. Carcassonne airport is 1 hour away, Perpignan 1hour 30 minutes and Toulouse 1hour 40 minutes. We can arrange collection from these (at a small cost) if you wanted to fly and just bring your bikes or your boots. We can also arrange drop-off and pickup points each day along with a packed lunch, again for a small fee.

For those who like interesting sights and places, but not too strenuous, there are the magnificent Cathar chateaux including the famous Rennes le Chateau, Queribus and Peyreperteuse. The region has many wine Caves to visit and to tempt your palate. The Gorges du Galamus is a sight not to be missed and bathing in its warm rock pools is a very enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The train touristique is a leisurely way to see the countryside without the distraction of driving.

If relaxing, reading or strolling quietly through the lovely countryside is your ideal holiday, then this is the just the place for that also. The thermal baths at Rennes les Bains are 5 kilometers away and can provide healthy massages.
Animal, birds and wildflowers can be found on the paths through our own forest.

From Carcassonne follow the signs for Limoux, from Limoux follow the signs for Alet Les Bains &amp, Couiza, at the lights in Couiza, turn left and follow the signs for Rennes Les Bain, from Rennes Les Bains follow the signs for Sougraigne. When they get to Sougraigne 1km passed sougraigne there is a turning to the right which is signposted La Jouane, follow the road up and at the top there is a turning down to the right, we are at the bottom of that drive.

From Toulouse, follow the signs for Carcassonne and then follow the above instructions.

From Perpignan follow the signs for Estagel, then Maury, St Paul, Caudies, Axat, Quillan, Couiza, from Couiza turn right at the lights then follow the signs for Rennes Les Bains, from Rennes Les Bains follow the signs for Sougraigne. When they get to Sougraigne 1km passed sougraigne there is a turning to the right which is signposted La Jouane, follow the road up and at the top there is a turning down to the right, we are at the bottom of that drive.

By car is a bit more difficult as there are so many ways down to the south of France, one way is from Calais follow the signs for Rouen, Dreux, Chatres then Limoges, Toulouse, then Carcassonne.
