Area: Gateway to the Perigord area, the ‘Pays de Bergerac’, south west of the Dordogne region, is an ideal place to explore the many treasures this part of France has to offer. Life in the region is and has always been based around the Dordogne river. A river trip on the famous « gabarres » (traditional river boats) will unveil the many secrets and stories let out by the river’s whispers. The Bergerac country is also famous for its numerous ‘Bastides’, new towns dating back to the 13th century and built by both the French and the English during the Hundred Years’ War. Monpazier has kept the most original feature of this widespread architecture which can be found throughout the South West.   Resort: Bergerac is the largest town in the Périgord Pourpre department, an area that derives its name from the purple grapes that grow in the region's vineyards. The most famous wines are the sweet whites produced around Monbazillac. Located in the plains of the Dordogne, Bergerac is scattered with remnants from an interesting and often violent past. The town endured much damage as a Protestant stronghold in the 16th century. By road:
From Paris (602 km) take motorway A10 until Orléans, then take motorway A71 until the exit N°5 get to the motorway A20 and take the exit Brives-la-gaillarde. Then follow the N89 road and reach motorway A89 go on 75 km long until the toll . At the toll exit , take road D709 20 km long then enter in Bergerac. At Bergerac take the direction for Périgueux, the residence is located in the Domaine de Pombonne. Leave Bergerac, turn left at the second traffic light and you arrived (the residence is approx. 500 m outside of Bergerac).
