IMPORTANT: 3 MEALS ARE INCLUDED FOR THE PRIVATE ROOMS NOT FOR DORMITORY. Prices do not include tax and services (22%)
At alambi we offer several types of accomodation: luxury accomodation in the lodge, with three meals a day included, a more economical option at the dormitory, which has a kitchen for cooking your own meals, and camping by the Río Alambi itself.
Alambi offers a variety of economical packages that include accomodation, meals, transport directly from your hotel in Quito, full guide service for the gardens, agrotourism guides and forest hike guides, drinks and access to other services.
For the budget minded, camping packages are available - we supply a tent as well as your food and firewood so that you can barbeque your own meals.
In addition alambi offers keenly-priced day-trips to other attractions in the immediate area such as forest-top cable-car rides, trips to the equator park or to a a local volcanic crater.
For 2005 we hope to offer cabin-style accomodation inside the forest itself on the highest part of the reserve.
For the latest offers, a full price list, or to make a reservation, please e-mail Miles at the address below.
We offer rooms for up to four people, with or without a private bathroom.
There is an indoor and outdoor dining area. We serve international cuisine with a vegetarian option. Room prices include three meals per day. Snacks and packed lunches are also available.
The sitting room is just the thing for putting your feet up after a hard days' hiking on the trails. Relax on a sofa by the fireplace, read a book from the library or cast a critical eye over the exhibits in the art gallery which specialises in wildlife and bird art and photography.
For the budget traveller or adventurer a camping area and dormitory are available. Both are located by the river, just a stone's throw from the guesthouse. Bathrooms, kitchen and barbeque are available. We can give sleeping bags and tents for those who prefer not to carry so much luggage.
THE RESERVE
The forest reserve extends over about 250 hectares (625 acres). The reserve is owned entirely by local people, born within a few miles. Most of this area is cloaked in humid montane forest, sometimes known as cloud forest. Remaining areas are being reforested. The altitudinal range is impressive: from 1450 metres (4700 feet) to 2200 metres (7250 feet) above sea level. At this altitude there are few biting insects, there is no malaria or yellow fever in the area.
Alambi is situated on the western slopes of the Andes at the south-eastern extreme of the Chocó bio-region, one of the world's hotspots for megadiversity. At just a couple of degrees from the Equator itself, biodiversity in the area is as high as anywhere on Earth. Indeed, the area around the Mindo-Nambillo Protector Forest regularly takes the world record for bird species in international birdcounts.
The forest is accesed by a series of trails which cater for all levels, from children and the eldery to the hearty hill-trekker in search of a challenge. As well as gentle walks by the Alambi river which traverses the gardens, you can undertake an adventrous hike to waterfalls on the Goaycape river. Experienced bi-lingual guides are available. We also offer specialist guides for birdwatchers. In truth, even the guides make new discoveries every day. Many species in the area have not yet been described by science.
The forest and its conservation is the heart of what alambi is about. It is easy to see why, the magic of tropical montane forest leaves a lasting impression in even the most urbanised visitor.
While most of the trails are dry for most of the year, some parts are a bit muddy so we provide rubber boots free of charge.
